Kamal Hassan fans in the State are likely to be disappointed as there is little chance of his film Vishwaroopam being released here as well.
This
decision comes soon after the Madras High Court said it would take a
call on January 28 on the film’s release. On Wednesday night, the Tamil
Nadu government banned its release for two weeks after Muslim
organisations objected to certain scenes. The government cited law and
order and restrained theatre owners from screening the film on Friday by
empowering district collectors to invoke Section 144 of the Cr.PC.
When The Hindu contacted
H.D. Gangaraju, the distributor of the film for Karnataka, on Thursday
evening, he said he was consulting other distributors and legal options
but had not taken any decision yet. “In the view of Id-e-Milad on Friday
and Republic Day on Saturday, I don’t want to take any chances,” he
said.
